Series ends in Thrilling Style - Scarborough Evening News Article 24th September 2007

The weekend’s racing was a contrast between light winds and colourful spinnakers on Saturday and very strong winds, fully reefed sails and survival conditions on Sunday.

Saturday saw  Tom Clark’s Tomahawk beat Zeris in the Class  2 Saturday B Series, leaving Zeris the winner of the Series overall. 

Tomahawk broke its rudder against Sunday’s strong winds and Starry Night was forced to retire.

Humdinger won the Class 2 race, with Zeris in second place.

Richard Craven, spokesman for Humdinger said: “We had an exhilarating sail. At times we were planing at more than ten knots. We got the point we needed to win the Class 2 Sunday B series.”

Brian Sizer, skipper of Zeris said: “The conditions were demanding, and did not favour Zeris. It was an interesting race.”

The Class 1 race was won by Ruffian. Skipper Pete McIntyre said: “The wind was strong, and everything went well for Ruffian. It was a brilliant race.”

A spokesman for Apollo in second place said: “This was sailing on the edge for Apollo. With six on board we just about managed to counterbalance the wind. It was an exhilerating sail.”

This left Vado the winner of the Class 1 Sunday Series overall with Starry Night second and Ruffian and Apollo equal in third place.
