My Report to Malton Town Council
: 30 June 2005 MALTON TOWN COUNCIL
29TH JUNE 2005
Sports Centre
I have continued supporting this project. The consultants are currently preparing the paperwork necessary for submitting a planning application. They are also investigating funding sources, and doing other work. It will be some months before the matter comes back to the Council.
Malton Hospital – Maternity services
The Chief Executive of the Healthcare Trust made a presentation to the Scrutiny Committee. According to her, patients are not encouraged to go to Scarborough Hospital rather than Malton Hospital, and, if they need to be delivered after 5.00pm, the midwife will meet them at Malton Hospital and admit them.
Housing – Allocations
The Scrutiny Committee has made a brief investigation into concerns raised by myself and others in regard to housing allocations which are being made to people with no local connection. At present, there is nothing in the pointing system which gives any credit for applicants who have a local connection with Ryedale. However, it is understood that this is going to change, but the committee was given no details about how this change was going to be made. So the committee agreed to endorse the allocations scheme adopted by RHA, subject to amendments of the scheme to emphasise local needs being agreed with the Council. I intend to pursue this.
Flamingoland
. Concern has been raised about how some of the animals in the zoo are cared for. My view is that the zoo is an excellent tourist attraction. While I want to see standards of animal care raised, where necessary, I take a positive view and think that, subject to a high standard of animal care, in general, the zoo should be given public support.
Old Malton Planning Application for Business Development
This has been temporarily withdrawn. I am keeping a close eye on it.
