Up until 7 years ago, I was a local government officer. I was engaged in the public service as a solicitor for 23 years, including 18 in senior or supervisory positions. During that time, I worked mainly in country districts and worked closely with all departments within the authority. In 1988 I came to Ryedale and was appointed Ryedale’s Council Solicitor. I held that position for 8 years. I have lived in Ryedale since 1988.
I retired from local government in May 1997, after moving to the City of York Council for just over a year after the 1996 Local Government Reorganisation. Since then I was employed in private practice for four years, and afterwards, I have been engaged as a professional legal locum in both private practice and local government.
